Blessings through Humility

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”(Matthew 5:2,3 NLT)

The word “poor” in this verse talks about humility. Those who are humble will realize their need for God. In God’s kingdom, only humble people will be lifted in life. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “humility” as “Freedom from pride or arrogance.” Jesus not only preached about humility, but he also modeled for us in His life till his death.

The Apostle Paul addressed this in his letter to the Romans. “For by the grace given me, I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” (Romans 12:3, NIV) We must be honest in evaluating ourselves. Comparing ourselves to others can lead to feelings of inferiority or superiority, which is unhealthy. As we humble ourselves before God, He gives us more grace to overcome anything that comes our way.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.” (James 4:10, NLT)
